RAFT-Mediated Radiation Grafting on Natural Fibers in Aqueous Emulsion

چکیده

Using aqueous emulsion as the medium in radiation-induced graft polymerization (RIGP) offers an environment-friendly shift from organic solvents while increasing efficiency through known water radiolysis-based initiation. In present paper, we further extend applicability of RIGP under influence reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) mechanisms. Emulsions prepared with Tween 20 showed good colloidal stability for several hours. Subjecting it to simultaneous irradiation abaca fibers resulted successful grafting, supported by gravimetric, IR, SEM, and TG analysis. A correlation was drawn between smaller monomer micelles enhancement grafting driven diffusion surface area coverage. RAFT mechanisms were also conserved based on molecular weight evolution. RAFT-mediated shows potential a versatile green modification technique natural various functional applications.

Amphiphilic block copolymer nano-fibers via RAFT-mediated polymerization in aqueous dispersed system.

Self-assembled block copolymer nanofibers are attractive materials for multiple applications. We propose here a novel, very simple and straightforward method to prepare polymeric nanofibers at high solids contents directly in water. It is based on an aqueous emulsion polymerization process performed under living radical polymerization conditions, using the RAFT method.

Extreme UV Radiation Grafting of Glycidyl Methacrylate Nanostructures onto Fluoropolymer Foils by RAFT-Mediated Polymerization

Periodic nanostructures of poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (pGMA) were grafted onto poly(ethylenealt-tetrafluorethylene) (ETFE) films by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. ETFE samples were first irradiated in an interference lithographic setup using EUV (extreme ultraviolet) light followed by exposure to air to introduce surface peroxide groups serving as therm...

Synthesis of well-defined epoxy-functional spherical nanoparticles by RAFT aqueous emulsion polymerization†

The environmentally-friendly synthesis of epoxy-functional spherical nanoparticles has been achieved using polymerization-induced self-assembly (PISA) in aqueous solution. Firstly, a non-ionic hydrophilic stabilizer block, poly(glycerol monomethacrylate) (PGMA), was prepared by reversible addition–fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) solution polymerization in ethanol. This water-soluble precurs...

Surface grafting of electrospun fibers using ATRP and RAFT for the control of biointerfacial interactions.

BACKGROUND The ability to present signalling molecules within a low fouling 3D environment that mimics the extracellular matrix is an important goal for a range of biomedical applications, both in vitro and in vivo. Cell responses can be triggered by non-specific protein interactions occurring on the surface of a biomaterial, which is an undesirable process when studying specific receptor-ligan...

In this work, a thermo-responsive and cross-linked fluoropolymer poly(2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl) methacrylate (PTFEMA) was successfully prepared by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) mediated aqueous polymerization with a thermo-responsive diblock poly(dimethylacrylamide-b-N-isopropylacrylamide) (PDMA-b-PNIPAM) that performed a dual function as both a nanoreactor and macro-RAFT ...
